Retyping an address from memory
You remember how it starts. That is the part that carries no information.
The question
Why does a reader believe they can reproduce one of these strings by hand?

Set out flat, in the arrangement they were handed over, with nothing added. Nothing on this page marks one of them as the main one, because on this site that would be the one claim the studies are all arguing against. This reference opens none of them and measures nothing about them.
The illusion the set creates
A reader who has seen the three together has learned the opening thoroughly, because it repeats three times in front of them. That fragment then feels like knowledge of the address.
It is knowledge of the part that is identical across the set, which is the part that cannot identify any member of it. See the head all three addresses share.
What is actually being asked
Reproducing a specific string of that length, exactly, with no meaningful structure to hold on to. It is not a task people are good at, and confidence about it is not correlated with accuracy.
The tail, which is the part that matters, is precisely the part nobody has learned.
Why the feedback is useless
A wrong string produces silence, which is the same thing a quiet route produces. Nothing tells you the error was yours, so nothing corrects the habit.
A reader can therefore mistype, blame the route, and go on believing both that they can type it and that the route is unreliable. Both beliefs are wrong and neither will be challenged.
The autocompletion version
Typing a few characters and accepting a completion is the same error with a different surface. The completion is drawn from wherever you have been, and it has no way of knowing which of those places was the right one.
On a set of three that share an opening, a completion offered after eight characters is choosing between things you cannot distinguish at that point in the string.
The version that is worse
Typing from memory while looking at a screen that shows an address. That is transcription rather than recall, and it introduces the specific error in characters from two addresses when more than one string is visible.
Two visible strings that share an opening is the ideal condition for producing a hybrid.
The alternative
Paste from your own store. The buttons beside the strings on this page exist for that, and the list you keep is about making the store reachable enough that pasting is easier than typing.
If pasting is harder than typing at the moment you need it, the store is the thing to fix.
Why this counts as a plurality mistake
Retyping any address is an ordinary error. What makes this one specific is the false confidence produced by a shared opening, and the fact that the wrong result is a plausible member of the set rather than obvious nonsense.
A hand typed string that starts correctly and ends wrongly is exactly what the set makes easy to produce.
The rule
Never type one of these. Not the whole thing, not the last few characters, not a correction. Paste it or do not use it.
The specific shape of the confidence
Readers do not believe they have memorised the whole string. They believe they will recognise the right one when they see it, and that recognition will catch any error they make while typing.
It will not. Recognition operates on the parts that are familiar, and the familiar part is the opening, which is identical across the set. The tail, where the error will be, is exactly the region recognition has never learned.
So the check a reader is relying on to catch the mistake is the one part of their attention that cannot catch it, which is why the rule here is absolute rather than a matter of care.
If there were only one address
Retyping would still be a bad idea and it would fail honestly: a wrong string would simply be wrong, with no family for it to resemble. The false confidence in this study comes from having learned an opening that repeats across the set, and the dangerous result comes from that opening making an incorrect string look like a member.
What this study is not. It is not general advice about handling long strings, and it applies to this set because of what the set has in common.
